Once the home of Engine Company 12, this firehouse was originally constructed in 1895 by architect, Snowden Ashford. It was commissioned by the North Capitol and Eckington Citizens Association to serve the Bloomingdale & Eckington neighborhoods and was noted for its “artistic architectural design.”
The Firehouse was officially commemorated on July 1, 1897 and went on to house generations of firemen for close to a century.
In 2013 we transformed this magnificent building into a first class contemporary American restaurant, coupled with spacious and lavish event spaces.
Stepping inside Old Engine 12, you’re instantly enveloped in the history and elegance of this historical neighborhood landmark.
From the original brass fireman’s pole to the third floor Captain’s Loft, we have preserved the legacy and character of the original firehouse that served its community with pride.

Peter is originally from Trinidad but calls DC home. He attended French Culinary Institute in Manhattan, NY. His culinary career started as part of the opening team at Leopold’s Kafe and Konditorei, he continued his career at DC institutions such as Citronelle, Poste Moderne Brassiere. After a two year stint in California with The Hillstone Restaurant Group he returned to the District as the Executive Sous Chef at Todd Gray’s Equinox. Peter brings his diverse culinary background to the Firehouse to create an exciting New American grill menu, that pairs well with our large craft beer list.
